March Pack mtg / Compassion

Posted on Mar 20 2013 - 7:52am

Thanks to the Scouts who participated in this months meeting. We kicked it off by doing a short skit on helping people and showing compassion. Scouts who helped with the opening ceremony and the skit were Ricky Najmy, Kayne McKeever, Andrew Limansky, Henry Christhilf, Brandon Pittman, and Landon Faber. Landon then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. We talked about Johnny Appleseed and how he planted apple seeds across several states and how those trees are still providing fruit for people and animals to this day. Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) planted these seeds of compassion in looking out for future generations. We talked about how we can plant seeds of compassion in our everyday deeds ... in helping people and in understanding and respecting differences in people. We played a game to try to understand what it must be like for people who live each day with some type of impairment such as reduced vision, hearing loss, dexterity problems, or even having the use of one arm. I think tying shoes with one hand was the most difficult! The boys found a way to show compassion by helping each other tie their shoes.

If your Scout has not yet earned the belt loop / pin for Disabilities Awareness, and would like to, the requirements can be found at: http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/CubScouts/CubScouts/UniformsAndAward...

The core value for April is Faith. Please guide your Scout in his activities with a focus on faith and the importance and value of believing and trusting in a higher power.

Faith: Having inner strength or confidence based on our trust in a higher power. Cub Scouts will learn that it is
important to look for the good in all situations. With their family guiding them, Cub Scouts will grow stronger in
their faith.

Hope to see you at Scouting for Food (meet at Gorc 9am Sat, April 6) for bag drop. Next Pack meeting is April 22nd 7pm in Manning Hall.

In Scouting,
Marc
